
The Manassas Republican Party is giving notice that April 3rd is the deadline for candidates interested in running in a Primary for local Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue offices and the House of Delegates in the 2025 elections. The Manassas GOP, again, intends to field strong candidates and make Democrats run the hardest race they have ever had to.
Step 1: Declare Your Intent to Run
If you have not already done so, formally declare your intention to run by contacting our Party Chair, George Ellis. This is a critical first step to ensure you receive the necessary support and guidance through the process.
Step 2: Meet Ballot Access Requirements
Once you’ve declared your candidacy with the party, you’ll need to file the required documents by the deadlines outlined below.
For Local Office Candidates (Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, etc.)
File with the General Registrar between January 2, 2025 – April 3, 2025 (5:00 PM deadline)
Read the candidate bulletins for Local Office.
Primary Filing Fee (Contact Registrar to determine)
File with the Local Republican Party Chair (George Ellis) between March 17, 2025 (noon) – April 3, 2025 (5:00 PM deadline)
Receipt for Primary Filing Fee
Petition of Qualified Voters (125 signatures)
Once steps above are completed and ballot access is secured, the Manassas GOP can assist with filing a Statement of Organization and first Campaign Finance Reports.
For House of Delegates Candidates
File with the Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) between January 2, 2025 – April 3, 2025 (5:00 PM deadline)
Primary Filing Fee: $352.80.
File with the Republican 10th House District Chair between March 17, 2025 (noon) – April 3, 2025 (5:00 PM deadline)

Petition of Qualified Voters (Minimum 125 signatures required).

Commissioner of Revenue Job Description: The commissioner of revenue shall perform such duties not inconsistent with the laws of the Commonwealth in relation to the assessment of property and licenses as may be required by the council for the purpose of levying city taxes and licenses. He shall have power to administer such oaths as may be required by the council in the assessment of license taxes or other taxes for the city. He shall make such reports in regard to the assessments of both property and licenses, or either, as may be required by the council. He shall perform such other duties as may be required of him by the council. Salary: $126,547
Treasurer: The city treasurer is specifically charged with the preparation and delivery of all bills for tax levies and license taxes due the city and the prompt collection of such taxes. Should any tax or taxes become delinquent, the city treasurer shall promptly proceed to collect the same in such manner as prescribed by ordinance or law. The city treasurer shall furnish, in addition to any bond required of him by the Commonwealth of Virginia, a bond payable to the City of Manassas in such amount as the council may prescribe and conditioned upon the faithful and true performance of all the duties placed upon the city treasurer by this charter. Salary: $135,000
Virginia State Delegate: A Virginia State Delegate is an elected representative in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower chamber of the Virginia General Assembly. Delegates serve two-year terms and represent their district by introducing, debating, and voting on legislation that impacts Virginia residents. The role requires leadership, public service, strong communication skills, and an understanding of legislative processes. Delegates work on issues ranging from state budgets and taxes to education, healthcare, transportation, and public safety. Salary: $17,640 per year
