Hello fellow City of Manassas Patriots. Welcome to the sixth monthly issue of a series of new newsletters designed to keep City of Manassas Republicans informed about our activities, accomplishments, and, most importantly, where we need your help and participation.


SEPTEMBER 9 MEETING RECAP

  • It’s a pleasure to note we had 45 attendees at this meeting.

  • An early part of this sixth meeting of the new term involved a brief review of our recent activities. The review featured reports on:

    • The 10th Congressional District Meeting of 8/27

    • The Super Saturday Campaign event of 8/29

    • The Dave Beckwith for Congress Fundraiser of 9/3

    • The Executive Committee Meetings of 9/2 and 9/8, including an update on the pink mailer, sample ballots and students

  • Communications and Social Media Committee Chairman Walters encouraged everyone to attend the Oktoberfest fundraiser for Sara Brescia at the Walters house on September 12.

  • School Board Member Sara Brescia reported that her court case was settled in her favor.

  • City Council Member Theresa Coates Ellis reviewed some of the recent activities within the City Council and encouraged everyone to attend her third of three community gatherings called “Cookies with Community” on September 13.

  • Electoral Board Chairman Michael Turchetti reminded everyone about the upcoming early voting days beginning on September 18, and continuing until Election Day on November 3rd, and the need for paid election officials willing to take an oath of neutrality.


Highlight of the Evening

Our guest speaker, Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity, gave us a revealing presentation on how he wins elections despite living in an area dominated by people from the other political party.


New Business

  • Una Geary was appointed as the Chairman of a new Ad Hoc Volunteer Scheduling Committee. She will serve in that role until Election Day on November 3rd. WE NEED EVERYONE TO SIGN-UP IN THE “SIGN UP GENIUS” FOR SHIFTS TO HAND-OUT SAMPLE BALLOTS AND HOLD-UP CAMPAIGN SIGNS AT THE ELECTION OFFICE DURING THE EARLY VOTING DAYS. Sign-up here.

  • A previously announced motion to endorse Sara Brescia, Raul Campoverde, and Javanese Hailey for election to the Manassas School Board passed unanimously.

  • A previously announced motion to approve the Executive Committee endorsed Mailing List Survey was also approved unanimously.

  • A new motion was presented that the Manassas GOP go on record opposing all three of the proposed Virginia constitutional amendments. After discussion from both sides of the issue, the motion lost in a close vote.


Announcements

  • Our guest speaker for our next meeting on October 14th will be former Virginia Lt. Governor, Winsome Earle Sears.

  • Early voting begins September 18 (M-F 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except Monday, October 12).

  • The October deadline for newsletter and calendar entries is October 17.

  • Valerie Osborne, the campaign manager for Dave Beckwith for Congress, invited everyone to the debate between Dave and his opponent on September 22 (see the flyer here)

  • Carol Fox, Chairman of the Bull Run Republican Women’s Club, invited everyone to their Line Dancing event on September 18th.

  • You are invited to the weekly postcard writing event held every Wednesday by Theresa Coates Ellis (see the flyer here).

  • Rick Bookwalter reminded everyone we still need election officials and that those who sign-up do get a small stipend.

  • If you are interested in working at the PWC Republican booth during the September 26th Latino Festival at the Harris Pavilion, contact Kenny Loveless.

  • Please answer the questions in our new survey (see the survey linked here) and send your responses to: chair@manassascitygop.com.


And Finally

As many of you know, we took a controversial vote during our September meeting on the proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution, and the result was described above. As Chairman, I feel obligated to let you know I will be voting NO on all three of the proposed amendments.

  • October 24: Saturday early voting hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • October 25: Sunday early voting hours 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • October 31: Saturday early voting hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • October 31: Last Day for Early Voting

  • November 3: General Election Day voting hours 6:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. at your precinct

  • November 9: November deadline for newsletter and calendar entries

  • November 11: City of Manassas Republican Committee Meeting, at Old Towne Sports Pub, Social at 6 PM, Business Meeting at 7 PM

  • December 7: December deadline for newsletter and calendar entries

  • December 9: City of Manassas Republican Committee Meeting, at Old Towne Sports Pub, Social at 6 PM, Business Meeting at 7 PM

  • December 18: Annual 10th Congressional District Holiday Celebration at Trump National
